I’m not sure if many Christ followers will admit to this. You know, the times the Bible feels or seems silent. Let me say it: there I times when I feel like I’m not getting anything from the Bible. Sometimes I read the Bible and it doesn’t ‘seem’ like I’m getting anything out of it.
I must admit, upfront, that the problem is never the Bible. The ‘problem’, cause I can’t think fo another word, is often me. I’m not going to act like I know all the reasons why, because I don’t.
I could attempt to give a few… Sometimes there’s too much noise in my world. God speaks to us, primarily through the Bible. When we’re not reading it, we’re miss out on hearing from Him in this way.
Here are some of the things that have been helpful for me:
I’ve learnt that this should never stop me from reading the Bible. Though it doesn’t feel like God isn’t speaking the deposit made often become significant in the future.

Changing translation has also been helpful during the ‘dry spells’. Reading the same Bible translation for a long time can make you blind. You can end up preempting what the Bible says becaus you’ve read it many times before.
Try a different translation.
Topical / Devotional
If part of the challenge is something I’m going through, I tend to switch to a topical study. Devotionals come in handy. I’m not a fan of devotinals, I prefer study plans.
Taking a time out to do a topical study or devotional can be another source of ‘fresh air’.
Instead of reading I’ve listened to the Bible. Perhaps engaging a different sense. I listen on the Bible App / YouVersion.
I just discovered, Streetlights Audio Bible. Set to hip hop music, without any of the bland monotone voices, it is something easy for me to be captivated by. I love it!
It is never in vain. Reading the Bible and doing whatever I can to engage with is always encouraging. I’m always inspired and strengthened.
The “freshness” not always being there doesn’t mean I disengage. No fizz doesn’t mean God isn’t speaking to, strengthening, guiding and directing me.
Never quit on the Bible. Never.
